The mechanism

How does it work?

Vedic Meditation is the effortless, silent repetition of a personal bija mantra. It's practiced twenty minutes, twice a day.

Unlike other styles of meditation, the practice is completely effortless. It doesn't involve any doing, concentration, or creating of emotional states.

You receive your own mantra and instruction - making you a fully self-sufficient meditator after the course.

Designed for people actively engaged in work and relationships - you will learn to effortlessly meditate in any setting: busy, quiet, noisy, hectic or calm and peaceful.

Grounded in a 5,000-year-old living wisdom tradition. Any question you have will be met with care and depth.

Over time, subtler states of consciousness will become available to your perception. We hold a complete map of those and will be glad to guide your exploration.

What is this good for?

Traits of regular practice

This page used to cite studies. I've taken them down.

The research on meditation of all styles is mostly scientifically unsound. Study design is often underpowered, unblinded and inflated by expectation effects. Pointing to it to sell a practice felt dishonest, so I stopped.

What remains are much more grounded claims, rooted in a contemplative tradition and the direct experience of countless practitioners.

People who practice consistently describe:

A stargazer lily, petals open in gentle light

A quiet, conscious baseline

Each sitting is deeply restful. Practiced twice everyday, that rest matures into the conscious backdrop of your awareness. The experience you make inside of meditation becomes increasingly available throughout the day.

Better stress management

By regularly letting the body and mind rest very deeply, the experienced gap between what happens and how you respond widens.
Not necessarily less stress, but less friction navigating it.

A perpetually fresh perspective

Two scheduled timeouts a day allow you to disengage from the day's ups and downs. You always come back revitalized, and often with a view of the current situation it didn't offer when you left it.

Steadiness

Over time, an unwaveringness becomes part of everyday experience.
Frictionlessly adjusting expectations in situations when life pivots, pausing where you used to flinch, and the sense of authorship over your life moving inward.

Self-awareness

Looking inward twice a day, how can you not learn about what you're seeing? Thoughts, moods, emotions and subtle impulses become familiar territory. We’re building a map of consciousness with increasing granularity.

Intuition

The more time we spend in subtle states of consciousness, the more we start noticing subtleties outside of meditation too. Our fine level of feeling becomes more attuned to signals from both, the body and its environment.

Enhanced creativity

Our practice combines rest or unstructured time with a form of constraint, while inviting psychological conditions that can lower fear. These three are the most prominent factors known to nurture creative thinking.

Stress and Veda literacy

The course covers everything we think you need to know about stress and meditation, from a secular, biological point of view.
And you will be invited to explore Vedic philosophy.
